Ashwagandha for Dogs: What a Real Canine Study Found About Stress and Cortisol

Most herbal stress-support ingredients lean on human or rodent data. Ashwagandha, included in Adrenal Harmony Gold, is a rarer case  -  it has an actual randomized, placebo-controlled trial in dogs.

In a 2022 study, 24 dogs experiencing stress and anxiety received either a placebo or 15 mg/kg of standardized ashwagandha root extract once daily for four weeks. Dogs on ashwagandha showed a statistically significant drop in urine cortisol-to-creatinine ratio (a standard marker of systemic cortisol) compared to placebo, along with reductions in fear/anxiety scores and pain-related scores on validated canine behavior questionnaires. No adverse events were reported (Kaur, Seshadri, Golla & Sampara, Journal of Veterinary Behavior, 2022).

Why this matters for Adrenal Harmony Gold: veterinarians monitoring Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism) often track cortisol-related markers similar to the one used in this study. That said, this trial was conducted in generally stressed/anxious dogs  -  not dogs specifically diagnosed with Cushing's  -  so it's supportive mechanistic evidence, not proof that ashwagandha manages Cushing's disease on its own.

Ashwagandha is one part of Adrenal Harmony Gold's broader herbal approach. It's formulated to help support a normal stress response and calm demeanor  -  not to replace veterinary management of Cushing's disease, which typically involves prescription medication (such as trilostane) and regular bloodwork. This information is educational, not medical advice; please work with your vet on any pet with a suspected or diagnosed adrenal condition.
